The freight dashboard that replaced a spreadsheet
A twelve-tab spreadsheet turned into one page the dispatch team opens first thing.
The operation ran on a spreadsheet two dispatchers maintained from 6am. It was not badly built; it was simply carrying more than a spreadsheet should, and every new column made the whole thing slower and more fragile.
What we did
Rather than design a suite, we read the spreadsheet for a week and rebuilt exactly what was in it. The data comes from the transport management system through an integration layer that reconciles counts on every run, and the page shows a small number of decisions: what is late, what is unassigned, what has already cost money.
What we did not do
No new workflow, no approvals, no migration of history. That restraint is why the dashboard was used from the first week instead of argued about for a quarter.
